Hibernate: Half-Day Retreat

HIBERNATE DESCRIPTION:

Oftentimes we feel excited at the prospect of Summer. All the upcoming plans in the sunshine, trips to faraway places and dreams of all the fun times ahead in the outdoors. BUT. . .how do you feel as the sun makes less of an appearance in the sky? As the evening darkness comes sooner and the cold winds starts to blow? Do you find yourself beginning to get listless, sink into sadness, or restless for the sunshine to return?

Many people feel emotional darkness descend as the weather changes. But what if each season held its’ purpose?

At the HIBERNATE HALF DAY RETREAT we will be focusing on the purpose of Winter as we transition into this sometimes daunting time fraught with family holidays or lack thereof, complex emotions, and more time spent indoors. HIBERNATE will be about seeking out clarity for your individualized purpose in the upcoming season through an immersive art therapy and breathwork experience.

What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses the creative process to express your thoughts and feelings. An Art Therapist is a certified and credentialed professional that will guide the art making to help alleviate anxiety and depression as well as accessing different parts of your subconscious mind where emotions and memories are shaped. The therapist provides various materials such as paint, oil pastels, collage material, and colored pencils that are suited for the intervention and then observes and assists the individual to process what was created in order to integrate this new information into their understanding. This does NOT require you to be a good artist, but simply to be open to a new experience and allow yourself to record what comes through you for further exploration.

What is Breathwork?

Somatic breathwork is a therapeutic practice that uses conscious, controlled breathing techniques to help individuals release stored tension, trauma, and emotional blockages from the body. By focusing on the breath and tuning into physical sensations, somatic breathwork allows participants to access and process deep emotions, facilitating healing on both a physical and emotional level. This practice connects the mind and body, encouraging a state of relaxation and inner awareness, which can lead to profound personal transformation and an increased sense of well-being.

Retreat Schedule:

**Breakfast 8:30-9AM

**Introduction and Welcome Exercise 9AM-9:30AM

**Focus Art Therapy Experiential 9:30-10:45AM

**Break 10:45AM-11AM

**Immersive Breathwork 11AM-12PM

**Break and Snacks 12-12:15PM

**Final Art Experience and Processing 12:15PM-1:30PM

About the Location:

Creative Locale is a light-filled, mood lifting space that inspires creativity in the heart of Lakewood Colorado. It is a coworking and event location for a myriad of artists and musicians as well as business professionals. To check out the space click here: https://www.creativelocale.co/

Parking is located in two separate lots. There is a small lot immediately to the front of the space. Creative Locale also owns the adjacent lot next to the building directly behind the small lot. There is also street parking available.

About Cecilia:

Cecilia Thompson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Registered Art Therapist. She has worked in a wide variety of settings with many different populations of all ages and walks of life. She prides herself on walking with people through their experiences and meeting them wherever they’re at. She has been a therapist for nearly two decades and runs a private practice in South Denver. Her favorite thing is running these types of retreats and meeting cool and different people. She is ecstatic to share this experience with you at HIBERNATE.
