FIELD TRIP LOCATION
• Hewitt Canyon is located in the Tonto National Forest about 11 miles north-east of Florence Junction.
• Florence Junction is located about 17-18 miles south-east of Apache Junction at the intersection of Highway 60 and Highway 79.
• It has been almost 6 years since our club has gone to the marble site in Hewitt Canyon.
MEETING LOCATION and TIME
• We will meet in Gold Canyon at 8:00 a.m. in the Parking Lot of the Gold Canyon Village Shopping Center.
• The street address of Gold Canyon Village is 6900 E. U.S. Highway 60.
• Food and restrooms are available at the Gold Canyon Cafe. The Café opens at 6:00 a.m. for any who want to go early for breakfast.
UNLIMITED PARTICIPATION
There is no limit to the number of people who can go. Friends, family, and youth are always welcome.
WHAT WILL WE COLLECT
• We plan on collecting marble at this site.
• We have a letter from the Globe Ranger Station of the Tonto National Forest giving each person permission to collect up to one 5-gallon bucket of rock, which is more than the usual amount of rock set by the Tonto National Forest.
• Note: We cannot use powered hammers or jackhammers to remove the marble from the rock face, but after it is manually removed from the rock face we have permission to use up to 2 powered hammers to break the rock into smaller pieces.
VEHICLE INFORMATION
• Any vehicle will make it to the meeting location in Gold Canyon.
• The 9 miles of dirt road north of Highway 60 may be a little rough in a few places.
• The vehicles recommended for this trip are high-profile, four-wheel-drive, jeeps, quads, and side-by-sides .
• Rides are usually available for those who want to ride with someone.
RECOMMENDED THINGS TO TAKE
Club badge, basic rock collecting tools, buckets, trash grabber, water, lunch, shovel, manual tools to break rock from a rock face, and up to two powered hammers in the whole group.
FIELD TRIP FEES
• $5 for adult club members, $10 for adult guests, and $0 for all youth under 18
• Please take the exact money bills if you can.
