We’re thrilled to welcome The Hertfordshire Big Band to Southern Maltings—an award-winning ensemble that’s been lighting up the UK jazz scene since 2003. With a rich history spanning over two decades, this dynamic community jazz orchestra brings a bold and brilliant sound that celebrates the very best of big band music.
Known for their passion, precision, and ever-evolving repertoire, the band performs a vibrant mix of styles from the roaring 1920s to the grooves of today. Their library boasts over 500 charts, covering swing, Latin, and funk, with music from legends like Buddy Rich, Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Duke Ellington, Patrick Williams, and the WDR Big Band.
Their vocal repertoire is equally dazzling, featuring timeless classics from Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Natalie Cole, Diana Krall, Peggy Lee, and more.

The event is being held on the first floor of the Southern Maltings building. Please check with the event organisers if using stairs is problematic. Southern Maltings is the trading name of Ware Arts Centre Limited and is a registered charity (Registered charity no. 276998). All events are run by volunteers and proceeds go towards developing the Southern Maltings into an amazing creative arts centre which will enable us to put on a wider and more frequent range of events and activities for the whole community.
