Hero’s Journey The Series - Simply Gorgeous at Emagine Royal Oak

Emagine Entertainment has partnered with Folktellers Studios in Royal Oak to release “Hero’s Journey The Series -Simply Gorgeous” a music-infused animated concert series that melds the magic of live performance with an animated film. Guests will be able to experience this event for one night only on Wednesday November 6 at 8:00pm at Emagine Royal Oak. During this one-of-a-kind event Slight Return an award-winning rock band out of Detroit will bring history to life on the big screen as they perform live in theatre giving guests a live concert experience like no other.

Take a rockin’ ride alongside some of entertainment’s greatest artists…travelin’ along with them on their hero’s journey to fame and fortune. The “Chitlin Circuit” was the legendary tour route of juke joints and theatres that spread across the country. From the 1930s to the 1960s it provided the place where black artists and musicians earned their chops and entertained the in-crowd.

Here the musician singer comedian – and even more the emcee – could really make the walls sweet and bring down the house. Some of the greatest artists of all time came through this circuit. Notably Jimi Hendrix Sam Cooke Jackie Wilson Marvin Gaye The Jackson 5 BBK Ike and Tina Turner Little Richard Aretha Franklin and many more.

It’s fitting that the journey should begin with the man who knew them all Theophilus O’Dell George aka Gorgeous George and gave many of these artists their first call-up on stage that launched them to stardom.
