After the presentation of the book »Gender und Neue Musik« (2021) (»Gender and New Music«) by authors Vera Grund and Nina Noeske, about sexist behavior and discrimination within the contemporary music scene, the last evening’s concert is dedicated to the sonic impulses of South America. The evening begins with a new work by the Chilean sound artist Paula Schopf who utilizes field recordings from Patagonia as compositional raw material. In the collaborative project »LA STRADA / La incertidumbre del mañana«, composers from the Peruvian collective RETAMA, the Peruvian flutist and composer Macri Cáceres, Ana Maria Rodriguez, and ensemble KNM Berlin present a program that transforms select graffiti from the cities of Lima (Peru) and Berlin into scores. The common point of reference is the impermanence that connects graffiti to its city, whether with regard to its differing interpretations, contexts, or relationships to the urban space. The evening concludes with a performance by Ale Hop and Laura Robles for E-guitar and cajón, a drum-like, Afro-Peruvian instrument. Abstract and concrete sounds coalesce here into rhythmic sound collages and create an intense sound experience. In this project, the two artists explore their shared connection to the Peruvian Pacific coast.
