Ashton upon Mersey is part of the township of Sale. It is a small village with lots of character and a great sense of community.
"Ashton" is Old English for "village or farm near the ash trees", suggesting that Ashton upon Mersey is of Anglo-Saxon origin. The township is ancient and is first mentioned in 1260.
Join me as part of the Sale Festival celebrations on this walking history exploration of Ashton village.
Hear interesting historical facts including its' evolution, events and people as well as seeing some of the old buildings around the area.
We start off at St Martin's Church on Church Lane and we will walk around the locality.
Meet at St Martin's Church. It will take around 1.5- 2 hours and will be around 2 miles.
