About this Event
The President of The Wagga Wagga & District Historical Society invites you and your family, colleagues and friends to a presentation on the history of the former Union Bank building.
This is a rare opportunity to inspect one of Wagga Wagga most significant heritage buildings.
All members of the public are invited, and we would especially welcome people who have worked in the building. The early opening is designed to accommodate those who are working during the day.
The talk will cover the architect, the builder, the location and the evolution of the former Union Bank building from the 1850s through to today. The talk will be given by Geoff Burch, President of the Wagga Wagga & District Historical Society who has completed and documented extensive historical research on the building.
The building was designed by architect William Wilkinson Wardell (famous for Saint Mary's Cathedral in Sydney, St John's College at Sydney University, and Government House in Melbourne) and constructed between 1883 and 1885 by Charles Hardy known for his meticulous construction work around the Riverina having over 100 men on site at a time.
Tea, coffee and nibbles will be available.
