Discover the long-forgotten holding cell beneath Ripon’s Georgian Courthouse only open to the public for Heritage Open Days.The prisoners stood in a Holding Cell beneath the Courthouse when awaiting trail, stairs lead up to the court room and the dock. The cell is shielded from the public gallery by a board so that members of the public could not throw things at the prisoner. The cell can be accessed to the side of the Courthouse on Minister Road. The number of visitors allowed into the cell at any one time is limited so pleased be prepared to queue. The Courthouse will be open to the public at the same time but there is an admission fee.
The holding cell will be open and available to visit for free on Saturday 10 September and Wednesday 14 September, 1pm to 4pm.
