About this Event

Tours will last approx. 90 minutes

Meet in the foyer of the Victoria Gallery & Museum 5 minutes before the tour start time to meet your guide.

Discover more about Alfred Waterhouse, the 19th Century architect who designed the Victoria Building, which now houses the Victoria Gallery & Museum, on this university campus tour of possibly the largest collection of Waterhouse buildings in the UK.

Liverpool-born architect Alfred Waterhouse was one of the leading architects of the 19th Century. He is perhaps best known for designing the Natural History Museum, which opened in 1881. He also designed a number of buildings at the University of Liverpool including the Victorian Liverpool Royal Infirmary.

Learn about Waterhouse’s distinctive architectural style as our experienced guides take you from the University's flagship Victoria Building across campus via some other Waterhouse creations, to the old infirmary, which featured in the Casualty 1900s BBC series. The old infirmary, along with other university buildings en-route, are not usually open to the public, so this is a unique opportunity to step inside some of Waterhouse’s wonderful masterpieces.
