Heritage Lecture Series: Mental Health in the Black Community Africatown Heritage House is hosting its sixth 2024 Heritage Lecture Series event, a collection of speeches designed to touch on topics related to the Black experience. Chandra Brown will present her lecture entitled: "Mental Health in the Black Community."

In this session, she will discuss mental health trends in our community, signs to be aware of in our loved ones, and where to go to for help.
ABOUT CHANDRA BROWN: Chandra Brown is Executive Director of Lifelines Counseling Services, a United Way multi-service, nonprofit organization since 1958. Lifelines Counseling Services provides crisis, emotional, financial and housing counseling and education to community members in southwest Alabama. She became Executive Director in 2005.
A graduate of McGill-Toolen High School and an inductee into the McGill-Toolen Hall of Fame, Chandra majored as a dual major in pre-medicine and psychology at Xavier University in New Orleans. She has a Masters in community counseling from the University of South Alabama, where she was honored with the Lisa Bethea Kavanaugh, 40 Under 40 Award. She was recognized as a “Soul of Mobile” in November 2019, 2021 Women’s Foundation of Alabama Honoree, AL.com Woman Who Shaped the State, for 2023, Distinguished Community Service Alumni from the University of South Alabama, in 2024.
Chandra is the co-founder of the Society of Clotilda, a joyful health and wellness collective that is dedicated to the celebration, development, and prosperity of Black Women and their children. Chandra also serves as a board trustee on the University of South Alabama; serves on the regional advisory board for Truist Bank; serves as the past board president for the Alabama Coalition Against Rape; is a graduate of Leadership Alabama Class XXX; served as JLM President; and serves on the Board of Directors for the Alabama Humanities Alliance, the Alabama Contemporary Art Center and Rebuilding Together South Alabama. She is a general member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Greater Mobile Area Chapter of the Links, Incorporated. She is married to Leonard Stewart, Jr., a native of Mississippi and is the proud “puppy” mom to Red, a lab-hound mix.
The History Museum of Mobile and Africatown Heritage House invite the public to attend this FREE Heritage Lecture Series.
