Join us Thursday, January 16th, 2025 for Heritage Happy Hour at the Sanders-McNeil House & Aunt Effie’s Cottage!“The Sanders House was built by contractor James Wellman in 1895 and designed in the then-popular Queen Anne style. It has complex exterior volumes including a tower and bow windows. The detailing is elaborate and delicate with scaled shingles and ornate wood fretwork around the porch and gable ends. The tower contains a finely crafted spiral staircase. Once densely populated with homes, the Sanders House is one of the few remaining residences in the Downtown area. The building was saved from demolition by the Beaumont Heritage Society and restored by Mr. and Mrs. Alan McNeill in 1981 and again in 2020. The house is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.” Source: https://downtowntx.org/beaumont-texas/479-pine-st-beaumont-tx-77701

Heritage Happy Hour is an ongoing outreach program typically held every other month, with each event highlighting a historical landmark, time, exhibit, or organization, featuring complimentary craft beer provided by Giglio Distributing Co. (wine and non-alcoholic beverages also available). We believe that by promoting and sharing our local history and its historical significance in a fun and social way, we can also share and promote the efforts to preserve Beaumont’s historical landscape.
