Learn irresistable Romani music for reeds and brass with two rising stars on the international Romani music scene!
Benji Rifati is an American-Rom who has spent years studying trumpet from Romani masters of Eastern Europe. His teachers include legends such as Zahir Ramadanov and Demiran Ćerimović, as well as the contemporary master Džambo Agušev. Benji hopes to spread the intricate artistry of Romani brass music throughout the States and beyond, while educating American/non-Balkan populations on Romani culture, history, and traditions.
Sal Mamudoski, Macedonian Roma clarinetist was born in NYC. By age 12 he was playing at local Macedonian Roma weddings, where he caught the attention of virtuoso saxophonist Yuri Yunakov, began his musical studies with him and then performed with him at concerts, festivals, and weddings all around the country. His playing has been featured on many recordings and films. He has worked with well-known artists from the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East, performing on stages all around the world. His first solo album, Klarnet-Ché, includes original and traditional music.
This workshop is pay-what-you-can ($20 suggested donation), with no one turned away for lack of funds. Please pre-register so we know how many music sheets to bring!
