Come learn about how OCPR is handling infestations of the invasive Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) throughout Ottawa County. HWA is an invasive insect spreading rapidly throughout Michigan that infects eastern hemlock trees and if left untreated, can K*ll an adult tree in as little as 4 years. Since it's first detection in Ottawa County in 2016, OCPR has been surveying and treating for HWA to control its spread and protect thousands of hemlocks throughout our forests.OCPR Natural Resources Management staff will discuss HWA history and biology, how we are managing to mitigate its impacts, options for landowners with hemlocks on their properties, and will demonstrate how treatments are done to protect hemlocks into the future.
