Helping Kids Meet Their Parts:

Kids have big feelings and even bigger inner worlds. Internal Family Systems (IFS) offers a simple and compassionate way for children and families to understand what is going on inside of them. When kids learn that every feeling is a “part” with a positive intention, they begin to build confidence, resilience, and emotional language.

In this workshop, parents and caregivers will explore practical IFS-based tools to help kids identify their feelings, respond with curiosity instead of shame, and strengthen trust in themselves. We will also look at how parents’ own parts show up in tough moments, and how supporting caregivers to lead from Self can reshape interactions and strengthen relationships at home. No prior IFS knowledge required.

Katie Yvanovich (she/her), MA, AMFT, is a Level 1 trained Internal Family Systems therapist practicing at Mindful Child & Family Therapy in San Jose. With a background as a classroom teacher and experience providing support in both school and clinic settings, Katie helps families understand emotions as “parts” that carry positive intentions. She is passionate about empowering caregivers to lead from Self, so children feel seen, safe, and supported in their growing inner worlds.
