About this Event
We are developing an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and a Healthy City Strategy, and we need your input to ensure we are considering the things that are important to you.
Please join us at our Community Session on Thursday, October 24 to share your thoughts and ideas on:
o how we move forward towards a healthier city through City services, intiatives, policies and programs, streets, parks and buildings.
o barriers and recommendations for change to the City’s processes, practices and protocols related to how we provide services, employment, how we develop policies and how we purchase goods and services.
Your insights will help us move the City of Mississauga towards a healthier and more equitable city.
Background:
Healthy City Strategy
Mississauga has some of the higher rates of Type 2 Diabetes in the province. As rates are projected to continue to increase, the City is developing a strategy to reduce the risk and burden of Type 2 Diabetes. The development of a Mississauga (Diabetes) Healthy City Strategy will guide risk reduction and ways to improve how we live, work and play to decrease the prevalence of type 2 diabetes in Mississauga. The City has developed a draft strategy with input from previous consultations and is now seeking input on the draft strategy.
Empowering Change: A Comprehensive EDI Strategy
The City of Mississauga is committed to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion (EDI) and addressing racism and oppression within processes, practices and protocols. In April 2024, the City partnered with the Diversity Institute to launch the Empowering Change: A Comprehensive EDI Strategy: 2024-2030 project. This project aims to guide our EDI efforts by focusing on four key areas:
o The City as an employer
o The City as a service provider
o The City as a policy maker and
o The City as a purchaser of goods and services.
We are grateful for you taking the time to join us! We will be offering recreational passes to all attendees for the City of Mississauga recreational facilities.
Light refreshments will be provided.
