About this Event
CHANGED LOCATION FOR APRIL ONLY
Who's ready for an adventure?! As promised, if weather permits, we will be hosting this month's Joy Ride at Boggs Demonstration Forest, in Cobb, CA on Saturday, April 26.
- 8:30am meet time at Trail House for carpool
- 9:45 meet time at Boggs. See schedule below.
* It is possible you will not have cell coverage on the mountain. Please plan accordingly, load your route in town, and know where you're going!
Some may say it's the most magical place on earth. Boggs was devistatingly burned in the 2015 Valley Fire, but thanks to the Friends of Boggs Mountain, Redwood Trails Alliance, infamous trail builder Kevin Smallman (yes, the one who helped to sculpt Wente Trails), Bike Monkey events, and many local volunteers, most of the trails have been built back better than ever. Think berms and flow but in a remote rugged and raw trail system. Boggs has fun for every level of rider. Learn more about the forst here.
Even though Boggs is only an hour away from Santa Rosa, it is at approximately 3,000ft elevation, and the riding is remote. You MUST be prepared and self sufficient for inclement weather and emergencies on the trail. Please continue reading all information below if you plan to attend.
SEVERE WEATHER THE WEEK PRIOR TO OUR EVENT MAY CANCEL or MODIFY THIS RIDE. Please check email and our Instagram page for up to date information. These trails hold up well after rain, however heavy wind can mean many trees down. No news is good news!
LOCATION
**THIS MONTH ONLY ** Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest, Forestry Rd, entrance off of Hwy 175 just past the town of Cobb. We will meet 1.5 miles past the entrance, on Forestry Road in the camp ground area. Please navigate to this pin.
Drive time from Trail House is approximately 1hr 10 min. Please note, the highways to Boggs are winding, and the road into the camp area is dirt. You do NOT need 4WD, however you are responsible for assessing the road conditions appropriate for your vehicle.
CAMPING is not currently open for the season, however we will send an update if they open it for overnight stays during our weekend there.
SKILL LEVELS
*Please note we are not offering "new rider" category for this event. You must have at least some mountain bike experience, however beginners are encouraged to join!
All ride levels, from Beginner to Advanced, are welcome! The Boggs trails have something for everyone. We will do our best to split into our normal ride groups, however if we are short on ride leads who know the trails we may need to consolodate some groups. Please see event tickets for ride descriptions to best decide which group to join. You can ALWAYS change your mind at the event, but registering here helps us plan according for ride leads.
BIKE RECOMMENDATION
Boggs really does have something for everyone, but you MUST have a MOUNTAIN BIKE in good working order for this ride. There is no shop nearby, so please ensure your bike is ready to roll ahead of time! No hybrids/gravel bikes please! A hardtail can be just as fun out there as a full suspension. If you have a choice, bring whichever mountain bike makes you giggle :)
BYO LUNCH!
Since we will not be at Trail House to eat after, please plan to bring your own picnic/beverages for after! There are picnic tables at the camp ground, but bringing a chair is always a good idea. Hardester's Market is in Cobb right on your way for grab-and-go options (they do not have a deli, but generally have some pre-made sandwich options, any are a pretty fully stocked market other than that).
ONLINE REGISTRATION IS APPRECIATED. You must sign the ride waiver here before joining the ride. Returning riders only need to sign once for the 2025 calendar year! Thank you in advance.
SCHEDULE
8:30AM | OPTIONAL: Meet at Trail House, Santa Rosa for carpools (OPTIONAL) (we will send out info for a group chat to get carpool logistics going closer to the date).
9:45 AM | Arrive at Boggs Camping area. Map pin HERE
10 AM | Group Up and Roll Out! Organize into ride groups by self-selected skill level. All groups will have lead and sweep riders guiding the group. We will not lose anyone in the forest!
Ride! Ride for appx. 2-3 hours, depending on the group and route, with plenty of re-groups :-).
12:30 - 1pm | Post-Ride Lunch & Chill: BOYB & lunch. Boggs is a forest and camping area. There are pit toilets...and trees. We will hang out for a picnic after. Please bring your own lunch and beverages! (Change of warm clothes recommended.)
Already ready for more?? If you fall in love with Boggs like the rest of us have, Bike Monkey is hosting their 20th anniversary of the Boggs 8 hour race the weekend after! Check it out here. It's always a fun weekend, even to volunteer!

Ride leads & sweeps are only there to help navigate the trails. You are responsible for riding within your ability level, and communicating any issues with the ride leads/sweeps. This is NOT a skills clinic.
