Sunderland Museum was gifted a map of the 'Newbottle Waggon Rail Way.' This waggonway was built in 1812 (10 years before the Hetton Colliery steam railway) to transport coal in horse drawn waggons from John Nesham's Newbottle Colliery to coal staithes on the River Wear at Galley's Gill. Helene will tell us the story of this wonderful map and of a unique railway and it's attempts to use steam.
