About this Event

Trio Fadolín is an ensemble with a unique repertoire and sonority, featuring the fadolín—an instrument that encompasses the range of the violin, viola, and most of the cello—finding its footing in chamber music for the first time. In this concert, the Trio will focus on music from Eastern Europe, including a rediscovered work by the revered Ukrainian klezmer violinist & composer, Yehiel Goyzman. The rest of the program will feature works by Ukrainian composer Vasyl Barvinsky, and the trio's fadolínist, Ljova, as well as other selections from the trio's unique and rich repertoire. Trio Fadolín formed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its first performances were in the summer of 2021, on a makeshift stage at the Javits Convention Center mass vaccination site, operated by the US Army and organized by Sing for Hope. Since that time, the ensemble has made appearances at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, Bargemusic, Barbès, Symphony Space, Museum of Art and Design, and at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The group also shares a deep personal connection—all three members grew up in the former Soviet Union and arrived in New York as teens. Sabina was born in Estonia of Armenian Jewish heritage; Valeriya was born in Ukraine of Ukrainian, Jewish, and Russian heritage; Ljova was born in Moscow of Ukrainian-Jewish, German-Jewish, Polish, and Romanian heritage. The members share common bonds: immigration, Eastern European literature, humor, animation, and music. The group is here to tell the complicated story, to tell the stories of immigrant composers, to collaborate with immigrant artists, and to showcase places where cultures intersect.

Audience members are welcome to bring blankets or lawn chairs for their comfort, some snacks and a fun beverage, to make the experience extra special!

Family or date night friendly.

Location: near West 63rd street entrance to Central Park. Exact address will be provided to ticket holders on the day of the concert!
