About this Event

Background

Hedgerows are the best habitats providing biodiversity networks in countryside that actually sequester more carbon than forests. They can support great number of species (one farmer estimated that number to be 2000).

What to expect

Hedgerow Management Workshop is a one-day training to improve knowledge of the role hedgerows play for wildlife and farming and how to develop healthy hedgerows – management strategies.

Day training would include:

- Theory part exploring the importance and benefits of hedges; hedgerow surveying methods and and introduction to hedgerow management methods and practices - delivered by Megan Gimber (PTES England)

- a Talk about value of hedgerows for hedgehog conservation by Morag Boyd (PTES Scotland)

- a Presentation from CLP Nature group who are the leaders in FCCAN on hedgerow conservation in their communities (Jo McFarlane)

- Practical session in Tayport with surveying local hedgerows led by Megan Gimber who will provide advice on specific practices needed to upgrade the existing hedges.

Location

The training will take place in Larick Cente - TBC soon

Trainer

Megan Gimber is the UK Hedgerow Officer at PTES and has delivered an online talk about hedgerows’ role in biodiversity and farming to FCCAN in August. She has 10 – years' experience of working in hedgerow management at PTES (People Trust for Endangered Species).

Who is the training for plus important information for attendees.

This is a specific training for FCCAN Members involved in biodiversity projects that could use the skills in hedge laying. It would build their group capacity to involve in better biodiversity conservation. The training is also provided for farmers and landowners interested in planting and/or management of hedgerows on their land.
