Create your own foraging basket from locally foraged materials.
About this Event

Immerse yourself in the art of basket weaving with our unique one-day workshop, held at our craft studio at Brimslade Farm. Using materials sustainably foraged from our carefully managed hedgerows, you'll learn to create your own beautiful basket while discovering the traditional techniques of processing and weaving natural materials.

Your basket will be perfect for gathering wild items like berries and nuts. Throughout the day, you'll explore the materials used in basket weaving and learn how to process them.

Course Outline:

  • Material Preparation: Begin with an introduction to the materials, including clematis, hazel, willow, and brambles. Learn how to properly process and prepare these materials for weaving.
  • Basket Elements: Understand the key components of a basket: the handle, rim, and ribs. We'll start by forming the handle and rim, and then join them using the traditional ‘god-eye’ method.
  • Building the Structure: After securing the handle and rim, you'll add the ribs to create the framework of your basket.
  • Weaving the Basket: Finally, weave the prepared materials into the framework to form the basket itself.

By the end of the course, you'll have a handcrafted basket to take home and the skills to continue creating on your own.
