About this Event
Help us achieve a target of 200m more hedgerow restored at Yate common!
On Tuesdays from Nov 2024 - Feb 2025 we will be continuing hedgelaying along the cycle path in Yate common from 10:30am-2pm.
The hedgerow we will be working on is along the cycle path here (what3words: topics.twitchy.scarf).
There is some free parking at the round about on Westerleigh road at the bottom of Yate Common. From there you can follow the Road to Nowhere which eventually connects to the cyclepath, about 10-15 mins walk.
Alternatively, you can park at the car park at the other end of the common at the end of Moorland road, again about 10-15 mins walk from where we will be working.
If you have not joined one of our sessions before, please register as a volunteer by clicking the link at the bottom of the page.
Please note that the leader of these sessions will vary depending on the week, Most weeks will be led by Sonia from CPRE, some weeks will be led by staff from the Biodiversity/Volunteering team from South Glos council.
About Hedgerow Heroes
At CPRE Avon and Bristol we have an ambition to create/restore 10km hedgerow by CPRE’s centenary year in 2026. Over the last 2 years we have achieved 3km of our target, which wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic work of volunteers. This winter our Hedgerow Heroes project continues to grow bigger and better, now taking place across the counties of South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, and North Somerset.
Planting and restoring hedgerows can prevent soil erosion, increase biodiversity by providing wildlife habitat for many species of birds, insects, butterflies and small mammals and can increase the overall aesthetic appeal of a landscape.
We still need your help!
