About this Event

What to expect:

Hedgehogs are elusive creatures, so we won't be seeing any in the flesh. However, we will be checking our special tunnels where the hedgehogs will have hopefully run over ink and paper from the night before and left behind their little footprints!

About BioBlitz 2024:

BioBlitz is an interactive, participatory, one-day event bringing together families, school groups, and local community members to engage in nature-based learning with University of Kent students, scientists, and local wildlife experts, including Kent Wildlife Trust; Butterfly Conservation; Kent Moth Group. Hosted by the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE), the aim of the event is to record as many species of wildlife as possible on campus.

Visit our webpage for more information.

All surveys will start from the central hub in the Colyer-Fergusson hall (Near Gulbenkian). Please meet here 5-10 minutes before the start of the survey so that you can sign-in.

Please note:

All surveys are free, however prior booking is encouraged to ensure surveys are not oversubscribed.

If you are unable to do the walks to go out and collect the hedgehog tunnels, there will still be an opportunity to help process the tunnels back at the Hub.

Accessibility information:

  • 2.8km (1.8 mile) loop
  • Walk through woods, some steep areas, possible mud
  • The part of the walk on central campus is mainly on tarmac paths
  • Potential to split the walk if necessary – some volunteers take people to the traps on campus, some to the traps in the woods
