In the wake of the recently fallen kingdom of Troy, former queen Hecuba must overcome the insurmountable. Now a slave, her daughter is sacrificed to appease an angry spirit, and her son is murdered by a trusted friend for the gold that was intended for the child’s care. Before she is forced across the ocean to serve her foe, Hecuba- with the help of the chorus of enslaved women- exacts her revenge on the traitorous Polymestor. Above all, Euripides’ Hecuba is a story of perseverance through grief, vengeance, and the aftermath of violence.
