The exhibition Hecho en Montana showcases work by Krissy Ramirez, an artist-in-residence at the Clay Studio of Missoula since 2023. Krissy draws on her experiences growing up along the U.S.–Mexico border to create ceramics rich with memory, culture, and storytelling. Her work reflects a deep connection to her heritage, expressed through intricate textures and the thoughtful use of language. She often explores the juxtaposition of graffiti and calligraphy—two contrasting visual forms—to highlight the layered and complex nature of cultural identity. Hecho in Montana is a celebration of both her roots and her time living in Missoula, Montana. From the wildflowers that bloom each summer to the protests that have shaped her community, Ramirez finds inspiration in the everyday moments and movements that define a place. She incorporates natural elements—like floral motifs, and earth tones—into constructed ceramic surfaces, blurring the line between the built and the natural world. These influences come to life in her ceramics—pieces that are as much about history and identity as they are about form and function.
Join us for an opening reception on Friday, September 5, 5-8pm. Exhibition runs September 5-27, 2025.
