About this Event
CPR Training for Families

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this course date is restricted to parents with a pending discharge from McMaster Children's Hospital.   Class size is restricted and social distancing measures will be in effect during this training.  

McMaster Children's Hospital is pleased to support parents, family members, and caregivers with CPR training in order to prepare for the unexpected emergency, whether at home or in the community.

All of our courses are taught by our team of medical professionals, through our Simulation and Outreach Program.

We offer the Heartsaver® CPR AED course, developed and fully accredited by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Course Overview

The Heartsaver® CPR AED course focuses on developing life-saving techniques that may be needed during an unexpected emergency.  During this course you will learn how to perform high-quality CPR and how to respond to choking emergencies. You will also learn how to use an Automated External Defibrillator effectively. The course is approximately 4 hours long and includes:

  • How high-quality CPR improves survival

  • The concepts of the Chain of Survival

  • Recognizing when someone needs CPR

  • CPR for adults, children, and infants

  • How to perform CPR with the help of others

  • Mouth-to-mouth Rescue Breathing and Rescue Breathing using a mask device

  • When and how to help a choking adult, child, and infant 

  • How to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

 This course is designed for people with limited or no medical training.

Course Materials and Preparation

All required materials and equipment are provided.  This course can be taught in various languages other than English, as needed.  However, videos and printed course materials will only be available in English.

Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes, as the course will involve both sitting and standing and lots of hands-on practice. Please come to the course well rested.

If you are sick, we are sorry but you will not be able to participate in the course. 

Course Completion

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive an official Heartsaver® CPR AED certificate from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.  This official completion certificate can be used to meet employer, regulatory, or other CPR training requirements.

Please note that the following Cancellation Policy applies to this course:

• Requests to withdraw from a course (cancel registration) can only be completed through the Eventbrite registration system. Please go to www.eventbrite.ca/mytickets to cancel your registration.

• Refunds will be made according to the date of the request based on the following timelines:

More than 1 week before the start of the course = 100% refund

1 week or less before the start of the course = No refund

• If you are unable to attend the course, another family member or friend can be substituted in your place at no additional charge.

* No refunds or course transfers will be issued for withdrawals requested 1 week or less prior to a course. No refunds will be given for “no shows”.
