CHD Awareness: Supporting Heart-Healthy Beginnings
Join us for a vital professional training designed for doulas, birthworkers, and perinatal professionals committed to improving maternal and infant outcomes through early awareness and advocacy around congenital heart defects (CHD).
CHD Awareness for Birthworkers explores what congenital heart defects are, how they impact pregnancy, birth, and early infancy, and the critical role birthworkers play in recognizing warning signs, supporting families through diagnosis, and advocating for timely, life-saving care.
This training will be led by our keynote speaker Zoë Nelson, Founder of Healthy Hearts at Home, who brings lived experience and professional expertise in CHD education, family advocacy, and community-based heart health awareness.
What You’ll Learn:
- What congenital heart defects (CHD) are and how they affect pregnancy and newborn health
- How doulas and birthworkers can support families navigating a CHD diagnosis
- When and how to advocate for screening, referrals, and cardiac care
- Strategies for providing compassionate, informed, and family-centered support
