Join us for a Mother’s Day treat to Woodville via the beautiful Manawatu Gorge! Sunday 12th May 2024Starting the day off in Wellington, we head North behind our Steam Locomotive Ja 1271 and one of our Diesel Locomotives, Da 1410.
This excursion train will be picking up along the way from Porirua, Paekākāriki, Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Otaki, Levin, Shannon and Palmerston North. This train will also feature our open air viewing car.
After passing Palmerston North we take a sharp right curve and venture down into the Manawatu Gorge. Now only accessible via rail, you get a unique perspective of the monumental slips which closed the Gorge to road traffic from 2017. At Woodville, sample the delights of the restored 1960s era station whilst our train is prepared for the run back to Wellington. Meridian’s Te Apiti wind farm can also be seen from the station, occupying 1,150ha of land, with enough sustainable renewable energy to power 45,000 kiwi homes. As the train departs from Woodville, sit back, relax, grab a drink from the bar or a bite to eat from the Buffet Car and enjoy the ride home back through the Gorge and down the coast as the sun starts to set.

Please take note that this is a licensed trip, and BYO alcohol is prohibited, however, BYO cheese and crackers is cool! The Lounge car will be open along the way for refreshments and the Buffet Car will be available for hot food, snacks, and coffee. You are welcome to bring your own food.
Cash is recommended for purchases on board. EFTPOS is available but may become out of action due to the lack of signal in remote locations (like tunnels)!
