The Harriton Association and The Welsh Society - Philadelphia invite you to a FREE hearth cooking demo at historic Harriton House on Wednesday, March 19th, 2025 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. You'll see the kitchen added by Charles Thomson c. 1790 in action. Our Executive Director will make this beloved Welsh treat using period techniques and her treasured family recipe. Similar to a scone, Welsh cakes are made with butter, loaded with currants, and baked not in an oven but on a cast iron griddle. The demo will run continuously from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. with something to experience whenever you stop by.
The first floor of Harriton House will be open for a rare twilight experience with informal tours during the presentation.
Please note that this program is best for children 7 and older as it will involve a live fire in the fireplace. Adult supervision is required.
The event is FREE, tickets are NOT REQUIRED but registration does help us with planning.
The historic kitchen is accessible. Handicapped parking is available nearby. General parking is available below the house in our main lot.
