The artists:
Passepartout Duo [Italy] is a music group comprised of pianist Nicoletta Favari and percussionist Christopher Salvito.
Drawing from a carefully selected palette of electro-acoustic textures and shapeshifting rhythms, Passepartout Duo’s work investigates the way in which we listen to and connect with sound. Reassessing the tools they use to create their music, the group is continually developing a specialized and evolving ecosystem of handmade musical instruments that have ranged from analog electronic circuits and conventional percussion, to room-size textile installations and found objects.
Looking for ways of sustaining an independent musical career and shaping an international network of artists and musicians, the group has been on a nearly continuous world tour ever since they began collaborating in 2015, and their experiences traveling have heavily influenced their unconventional creative process. A recent visit to Japan resulted in a unique collaboration with the duo Inoyama Land, which was subsequently released as Radio Yugawara (2024) by the label imprints of Tonal Union and Inpartmaint.
Their from-scratch approach has materialized itself in a series of independent discographic releases as well: their Circo Pobre (2022) and Daylighting (2021) are both LPs exploring different ways of approaching sound synthesis and electronic musical interfaces, respectively realized through electromagnetism and textile fibers. Their 2020 LP, Vis-à-Vis, features compositions written for a portable wood and metal instrumentation that accompanied the duo during a month-long train journey across Central Asia.

Vijay Thillaimuthu is a Tamil-Australian audio-visual and laser artist informed by the rich history of analogue sound synthesis. Often performing under the moniker Xenosine, he creates unique immersive environments that can be experienced across different sensual distinctions based on synergistic approaches with technology. This is largely enabled through the open ended architecture of modular synthesisers and node-based programming languages.
Electromagnetic phenomena has always been at the centre of Vijay Thillaimuthu’s practice. Whether fascinated by the discovery of self generating tones through signal feedback, or the realisation that voltage could deflect and guide rays of light in analogue monitors and laser display systems. The driving force has always been the joyful exploration of electricity as well as the visceral, transcendental experiences it could produce in expression as sound, vibration and light.

Ai Yamamoto's practice comes with sonic exploration and melodies. She sources sounds from her surroundings, including insects, machines, animals, kitchen equipment, etc. Then, she composes with those manipulated textures and instruments to create atmospheric sound escapes. She collaborates with dancers, video artists and animators. Her recent works are commissioned by MCA for the Hiroshi Sugimoto exhibition.
