Wernicke's encephalopathy is acute reversible behavior or psychological changes which presidents with the triad of symptoms altered mental status, ophthalmoplegia and ataxia.
Thiamine is given parenteral for about 1-2 weeks failure to will progress to Korsakoff psychosis.
Korsakoff psychosis or syndrome is irreversible persistent condition in which there is significant changes in brain structures associated with executive functioning, memory and motor skill.
Mammillary body atrophy will result in Anterograde amnesia.
Hypocampus volume loss will result into retrograde amnesia.
Thus take caution while abusing alcohol �.
