Healing Forces: Art, Medicine, and Therapy
Join experts in art therapy, social prescribing (referring patients to arts programs and community groups for well-being), and community-based arts to discuss how creative expression fosters resilience and empathy. The conversation will also examine the evolving role of museums and arts organizations in supporting mental health and community well-being.
Featured Panelists
- Heather Spooner: Board-certified art therapist and Clinical Lead for Telehealth and Disaster Response with HJF, supporting Creative Forces: NEA Military Healing Arts Network. She teaches at the University of Florida’s Center for Arts in Medicine and was a pioneer in telehealth art therapy for rural veterans.
- Fred Johnson: Dynamic artist, acclaimed jazz vocalist, and educator who has toured globally. As Artist in Residence at the Straz Center, he coordinates arts and health programming, including initiatives for veterans. He uses creative expression to foster healing and connection, emphasizing inclusion and cultural equity.
- Chris Eaton: Death Doula, spiritual guide, and veteran leader whose photographs are featured in the exhibition. As co-owner of Trinity Yoga Wellness Center, he integrates theology, psychology, and ancient wisdom to cultivate healing, stillness, and resilience. He draws on 20 years of military and business leadership experience.

- Alexis Muellner: Co-founder and co-curator of The Soldier’s Lens and board chairman for FMoPA. He is the long-time editor-in-chief of the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
