This workshop, Archival Play, will explore how archives can flirt with embodiment, imagination and the blurring of legibility. Through design, drawing and movement invitations, we will uplift presence and the present moment as an archive to be handled with care, creativity and communal sensitivity. This workshop will remind us to breathe deeply and respond intuitively, inviting our sense of play, leaving remnants behind.
HEALING ARTS
Led by a curated roster of artists and practitioners, Healing Arts invites the public to explore the intersection of art and wellness. Sessions are open to all skill levels and offer the opportunity to commune in The Watermill Center’s art-filled indoor or outdoor spaces.
Our 2025 Healing Arts series is guest curated by artist and Watermill alum Ogemdi Ude under the theme: The After Party.
THE AFTER PARTY
This series of workshops will feature artists and healing practitioners that use their practices to fantasize, tell stories, and imagine new worlds. In the midst of what feels like new apocalypses every day, it's pertinent that we design and move towards what’s next for our imperiled communities.
Can we still find joyful bodies, minds, spirits in the future, working through and past collapse?
About the Practitioner: Myssi Robinson is a Bessie award winning performer, multidisciplinary maker and ever evolving caregiver from Powhatan lands / Richmond, VA. She explores creative archiving, mixed-media marking + design, ritual curiosities and her own improvising body. In all her making, intuition and empathy play with maximalist instinct to give life to what comes. Gratitude to Carolyn and Darrin and all who came before for her life and abilities to create freely within it. may we all heal.
About the Guest Curator: Ogemdi Ude (she/her) is a dance and interdisciplinary artist and doula based in Brooklyn. Her performance work focuses on Black femme and queer legacies and futures, grief, and memory. Her work has been presented at The Kitchen, Gibney, Harlem Stage, and Danspace Project.
