Kia ora whānau! He Whānau Reti Rapa Kotahi 2024 Season will kick off on Saturday 4 May 2024 at the Kilbirnie Recreational Centre in Pōneke.Sibling leagues Swamp City and Richter City will come together forming three new teams, named after the two taniwha of Te Whanganui-a-Tara’s harbour, team Ngake and team Whātaitai, and team Whāngaimokopuna, inspired by the beloved taniwha of the people of Motuiti in the Manawatu region.
On Saturday 4 May 2024 at 5pm team Ngake vs team Whātaitai will go helmet-to-helmet, followed by team Ngake vs team Whāngaimokopuna starting at 7pm.

Ko wai mātou? Who are we?
We are two tīma reti rapa (roller derby teams) from Pōneke (Wellington) and Te Papaioea (Palmerston North) and we have joined forces to create our own interleague tonamana whakangahau (fun tournament) to whakanuia (celebrate) not only our awesome sport, but to whakatairanga (promote) and whakaatu ki te hapori (demonstrate) to the rest of the roller derby community in Aotearoa, the importance of encompassing mātāpono māori (māori principles) such as whanaungatanga, kotahitanga and manaakitanga within your organisation. We all should be active in working towards decolonising our leagues and making our spaces inclusive for all. Tīhei mauri ora!
