Our speaker for this event : Haki Keogh Ngāti Maru, Te Ātiawa, Ngāti Mutunga
Haki is the Tumu Whakawhanake Mātauranga (General Manager) for Te Heru Māpara, an iwi-led education and vocational training entity based in Taranaki. He has spent the past 22 years working in the tertiary education and training sector, holding lecturing and management roles at Whitireia Polytechnic, Waiariki Polytechnic, Toi Ohomai, and Te Pūkenga. His academic background is in Business and Entrepreneurship, with a Bachelor of Commerce from Victoria University and a Master’s in Entrepreneurship from the University of Otago.
Te Heru Māpara was officially launched at the end of August 2023, rebranding a former Private Training Establishment (PTE) known as FEATS. Ngāti Maru purchased FEATS to enable the iwi to deliver education and training to its people and to support other iwi in Taranaki in providing qualifications and employment skills.
In Haki's presentation, he will discuss how Te Heru Māpara plans to deliver programmes tailored to iwi and whānau in a context that resonates with them, including Mātauranga-ā-Taranaki. He will also explain Te Heru Māpara’s iwi-led approach, what this looks like, and how it ensures that the focus remains on the needs of the people, rather than the business of education.
