PROGRAM
Harriet George (1810-1892) came to Texas from New York with her first husband Buckman Canfield to find land and grow a family. She did that and more, but with all the twists and turns, joys and tragedies of a multi-season television docudrama. Dan will recount her life story while we reflect on some of the earliest times of our State and City.
PRESENTER
Dan Worrall is a retired geologist and local historian, with two books on the early history of our area: Pleasant Bend: Upper Buffalo Bayou and the San Felipe Trail in the Nineteenth Century (2016), and A Prehistory of Houston: Landscape and Culture (2021). He is a past member of the Harris County Historical Commission, a member of the Houston and Fort Bend Archeological Societies, and a current Vice President of the Harris County Historical Society. He and his wife Mary live in the Brazos river valley near Fulshear.
