Hazelwood Historic House

For 182 years this prime example of Greek Revival architecture has stood on its original location overlooking the Fox River. From this strategic spot it witnessed the end of a Native American and French fur trade community and the birth of Yankee community.

Hazelwood was built in 1837-38 for Morgan L. Martin and his family. The family resided in the house from 1838 until the early 1930’s. A unique presentation provides visitors with two distinct time periods: The early years when Martin, a young lawyer from New York arrived in Green Bay. Martin, explored opportunities in land sales, was a force in local, state, and national politics, Fox River improvements, and community building. Later years saw unmarried daughters, Sarah and Deborah residing in the house, writing local history, and championing social change and preservation issues. The well documented rooms tell a story of change over time.
