The friends of St Paul’s Church are hosting live music from Hayley Savage and her band who will be performing songs from her critically acclaimed new album, ‘Hayley Savage’ released in April this year. There will be two sets from the band and a free buffet included in ticket price and drinks available at the bar, during the interval.
Hayley is a British folk & country songwriter, singer and guitarist from Hastings, East Sussex.
Released in 2009, The Daisy Room introduced Hayley as a quiet force in the British folk scene. The album carried a sense of domestic intimacy, recorded with an understated grace that hinted at the lo-fi traditions of early indie folk. Savage’s voice was the thread weaving through acoustic arrangements that blend traditional folk feelings with the vulnerability expressed by modern singer-songwriters.
Fifteen years after that debut, Hayley Savage returns with the self-titled album Hayley Savage. Written and recorded over ten years, it reveals an artist who has taken the long way around, arriving at something remarkably cohesive, deeply personal, and very listenable.
The album is rooted in folk and Americana. Savage’s voice carries the tunes with a clarity and closeness associated with the genres best like Sandy Denny and more modern singers like Aimee Mann. The music often branches off into adjacent folk-like territories. Tracks like “Freer” carry the warmth of Americana, complete with hushed harmonies and distant percussion.
This is a slow-turning mirror of songs respectful of folk, Americana, alt-country, and serious pop that reflects a natural, lived-in feel.
