– Enjoy a special, Civil War themed evening tour of the historic house of President Rutherford and First Lady Lucy Hayes during Hayes Home Holidays, offered two nights in December.
Guests will be treated to festive stories centered around Civil War soldiers on furlough from service for the holiday or unable to leave camp and will be able to interact with costumed reenactors.
Participants will enjoy a comforting cup of wassail, a hot spiced cider that was a popular holiday drink during the Victorian era, and cookies. They will also meet a surprise guest.
Tours are Friday, Dec. 20, and Saturday, Dec. 21. Tours begin at 5 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. with the final tour departing at 8 p.m.
The home will be lightly decorated for the holidays in a historically accurate manner. Before tours, guests can enjoy the “Hayes Train Special” model train display in the museum auditorium.
Tickets for non-members are $18 for adults ages 19 and older, $10 for kids 6-18 and free for kids 5 and younger. Tickets for Hayes Presidential members are $15 for adults 19 and older, $8 for ages 6 -18 and free for kids 5 and younger.
