Sunday March 9, 2025 at 4pm, The HOT L Poets Series continues at Bird in Hand Charles Village (Baltimore) with poets Hayes Davis & Chris Nealon! The reading includes an open mic so bring a poem (1 poem, 3 min. or less). Now in our 7th year, the reading series is sponsored by Smartish Pace and Baltimore Poets Theatre. Hosts: Clare Banks, David Yezzi, Stephen Reichert, Traci Lynn and Dan Todd. Hayes Davis’ first volume of poetry, Let Our Eyes Linger was published by Poetry Mutual Press. He served as the 2023-24 Howard County (MD) Poetry and Literature Society (HoCoPoLitSo) Writer in Residence, and won a 2022 Maryland State Arts Council Regional Independent Artists Award. Widely anthologized and published in many journals, his writing has appeared most recently on the The Academy of American Poets Poem-a-Day feature, and in This is the Honey: An Anthology of Contemporary Black Poets (Little, Brown & Co., 2024). He is a member of Cave Canem's first cohort of fellows, a former Bread Loaf working scholar, and has attended or been awarded writing residencies at the Hermitage, Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. An education administrator and English teacher, he lives in Silver Spring with his wife, poet Teri Cross Davis.
Chris Nealon teaches in the English Department at Johns Hopkins University. He is the author of five books of poetry, including The Shore (WAVE, 2020), which was a finalist for the 2020 National Book Critics Circle. His latest volume of poems is All About You (WAVE, 2024). Nealon is the author of Foundlings: Lesbian and Gay Historical Emotion before Stonewall (Duke, 2001), and The Matter of Capital: Poetry and Crisis in the American Century (Harvard, 2011). He is the co-editor, with Colleen Lye, of the collection After Marx: Literature, Theory and Value in the 21st Century (Cambridge, 2022). He lives in Washington, DC.
