'Have A Go' Crafting Activities & Demonstrations Join us for an industrious day of crafting activities from 10am - 2pm...
With the kind support of our Artists & Crafts People, these classes and demonstrations are offered FREE, there may be a small contribution towards materials (between £1- £5) for some activities.
There will be activities suitable for all ages and abilities as well as demonstrations to view.
Sandwiches, Home Made Cakes & Refreshments will be available to buy with all proceeds going towards the 'Regenerate Our Village Hall' Fund.
There is no need to book. Please plan to arrive at 9.45am to take a look at the crafting activities available for you to 'Have A Go' and to sign up to the session timings that suit you. Many of the crafts will be rolling or repeated throughout the day so you will be able to pace yourself and take part in all that you are interested in.
Toilets, off street parking and overflow parking are available.

Fused Glass by Kerry Collison

40 minute session - £5 materials cost:
Kerry is traditionally trained in stained glass and art foundry practices. Fused glass (sometimes known as 'kiln-formed glass' or 'warm glass') is an artistic technique where clear and/or coloured glass is melted or fused together in a kiln to produce a huge range of art pieces, from jewellery to bowls, sculptures, panels and ornaments. In this interesting, fun workshop you will design your own small glass panel using pieces of coloured glass. Your panel will be fired overnight and available for collection the next day at the Art Show 'Open Day' at Green Farm, Kent TN26 1LY or can be held for you to collect from nearby address at a later date.

30 minute session - £2 materials cost:
Jenny, holds a passion for ECOcraft which is all about using natural, sustainable and biodegradable materials to create useful and beautiful crafts whilst having fun at learning new skills. She runs ECokids at Green Farm Community Garden on Thursday mornings, a popular and educational activity for preschool aged children situated in beautiful rural surroundings with a stunning kitchen garden, that coincides with Tea & Cake from the Pop Up Coffee Shop.

Join Shadoxhurst Sewing & Craft Club and learn some sewing & knitting skills, gain advice & watch some creative demonstrations.
This will be a rolling activity that takes place throughout our crafting day.
Meetings are held regularly on the 1st, 3rd & 5th Thursday of each month at Shadoxhurst Village Hall from 7pm - 9pm. For more details please contact [email protected]

Learn about Cyanotype Printing
Rolling Sessions - FREE:
Cyanotypes are one of the oldest photographic printing processes in the history of photography. The distinctive feature of the print is its shade of cyan blue, which results from its exposure to ultraviolet light. In this workshop you will find out how simple and easy it is to make your own decorative prints using everyday items and traditional processes, something you will want to have another go at home.

Rolling Sessions - £1 materials cost:
Emily is a fine art printmaker, carving into wood and Lino. Pressing out a 2D image. Emily's beautiful prints are figurative, taken from her everyday surroundings, mainly from nature. Emily has exhibited at many venues and featured in the Royal Academy Summer Art Exhibition numerous times. As a resident of Shadoxhurst, Emily is joining our event where she will be demonstrating relief printing and you will be able to 'Have A Go' inking up the block and hand printing an image which, once dry, you will be able to keep.

If you would like to try your hand at writing, join this inspiring workshop and write your own short poem.

Wood Turning by Bob Cooper
Rolling Sessions & Demonstrations - Materials Cost TBA:
Woodturning is the craft of using a wood lathe with hand-held tools to cut a shape that is symmetrical around the axis of rotation. Like the potter's wheel, the wood lathe is a mechanism that can generate a variety of forms. Join this workshop and learn the basics.

In woodworking, hewing is the process of converting a log from its rounded natural form into lumber (timber) with more or less flat surfaces using primarily an axe. In collaboration with Bob Cooper, Viktor will be creating a bench to be positioned at the Village Hall as a memory of our 2024 Midsummer Festival.

Rolling Demonstrations:
Pyrography is the free handed art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated object such as a poker. It is also known as pokerwork or wood burning. The term means "writing with fire", from the Greek pyr and graphos. Ron will be demonstrating his craft showing just how intricate you can get with your designs.
