About this Event
About Hatch
Hatch is an employment skills development programme for young people aged 16 - 25, offering paid work experience and a guaranteed job interview! The programme begins with three days of employment skills training. After that, young people take part in a four-week paid work placement with KFC.
It is completely FREE to take part in Hatch, but you must be able to participate in the training AND the work placement.
Who can take part?
Hatch is for young people aged 16 - 25 who want to develop their employment skills and take steps into work. The programme supports young people who are not in education, employment or training, or at risk of being so. This includes young people in low-hours college courses, those who are underemployed (e.g. on zero hours contracts), or school leavers. This round of the programme is for young people based in Glasgow and the surrounding areas, or who would be willing to travel to those locations for their work placement.
The deadline to sign up is 1 October 2024 - spaces are limited so get your tickets ASAP. We have different placement stores available and you can select your preferred store when you book your ticket. If your preferred store is unavailable this means someone else has already reserved a spot there and you will need to choose a different one.
When signing up, please answer as many of the questions as possible, but if there are any you are unsure of, leave it blank and we will contact you for more information.
The Training (8 - 10 October)
The training will feature interactive workshops on aiming high, teamwork, essential skills, preparing for work, and doing applications. These will be delivered by Youth Scotland staff - all trained youth workers who will ensure the content is tailored to the young people in their group, and who will keep the energy going with plenty of games, breaks and icebreakers. The training is delivered over three days. Each day we will get started at 11am and finish by 4pm.
Training will take place at a location to be determined in Glasgow. Lunch will be provided each day, and we can also reimburse travel costs. Please contact [email protected] to organise this.
If youth workers would like to attend to support their young people they are welcome to do so (please book using the youth worker ticket).
Work Placements
After the training, young people will take part in their work placement at KFC.
- Work placements will offer 13 hours of paid work per week for four weeks
- They are paid at minimum wage, so wages will vary depending on participants' ages
- Select your placement store when signing up by choosing the corresponding ticket
- Placements after the October training will start approximatly 21st October.
