The new strategy for system change.
No one is happy! Conventional politics has lost all credibility. This is evident in the fact that the world is going through the 6th mass extinction, wars, pofood shortages, floods, the list goes on. Locally, people in one of the richest countries in the world can’t even afford to put food on the table or heat their homes. There is a general sense that nothing is working and the people in power don't really care.
At last, the alternative is emerging - 100s of independent candidates, chosen by assemblies, will stand against the political parties in the general election - on a manifesto created by local people. The results from the assemblies will live on in a permanent home for citizen decision-making: a House of the People to challenge the House of Lords and House of Commons. This is how we build a national social movement from the bottom up, to force real change after the election.
Inspired by developments in Cornwall and other assembly hubs, campaigns are being set up in communities across the county, supported by around £100,000 of funding raised so far. So come along and hear about the new strategy and the emerging alliance for system change. And the practicalities and pathways to action in Hastings.
Roger Hallam and Yaz Ashmawi will speak about the national Assemble movement – both have previously worked on strategy for Just Stop Oil and/or Extinction Rebellion.
Expect light snacks, good conversation, discussion in breakout groups and simple ways to get involved.
