The newest members of the Williamson County Chaparral Women's Club (WilCo Chaps) is hosting the "Harvest for Hope" fundraiser event to raise money and collect donations for their service project benefiting the Round Rock ISD Families in Transition (FiT)/ Homeless Education Program. The RRISD FiT program assists students that are either unhoused or in foster care. These kids rely on the Free & Reduced Meal Program for daily meals and when schools are closed during holiday breaks, those meals aren’t available to them… and they go hungry.
This year, in just October, they have already enrolled more than 600. Almost 60 of those are students who are not in the custody of a parent or guardian, these are kids who are doing it all on their own - many of them are "couch-surfing" and some are in cars. They are currently serving 45 Foster Care students and 15 families are reportedly living in their cars without access to electricity for microwaves. These numbers are expected to increase throughout the school year as more students sign up for the FiT Program. At the end of last school year, 1,100 students were experiencing homelessness.
We need your help to support these kiddos with Thanksgiving Break Meal Bags so they don’t go hungry!
