Harvest Loaves: A Samhain Baking Celebration with Shannon of Pizzelle BakeryThis seminar is an experience to educate about the real Celtic origins of the Halloween tradition and the foods that come with it. Together, we will taste about five different breads, discuss their origins, and share recipes to make at home. Perhaps a new tradition will come about, who knows!
Shannon will cover the origins of the holiday, the symbolism involved in the rituals of the holiday, how/why the holiday evolved over time, what foods were generally eaten/why, and what recipes can we still make today to honor these traditions many years later. About five different breads for sampling will be brought, utilizing the crops of the harvest from a local farm. One bread has trinkets inside it, so we will have one bread roll available per guest so that everyone can open a fun surprise and learn about the symbolism of what they unearthed in their breads. I would be happy to answer any questions as they arise, and we can open the floor to sharing special Halloween memories or harvest memories of baking with loved ones during this cozy time of year.
We encourage guests to come dressed in their best costumes! After all, Samhain tradition dictates that disguises were essential to confusing wandering evil spirits that may want to drag you down to the underworld. All guests will leave the event with more knowledge than they had when they walked in, a recipe card, and a belly full of bread.
The program has a 25 guest capacity. Registration is required.
