About this Event
Harold Rhenisch's poems balance the settler and Indigenous experiences of land and water in the Pacific Northwest. In poems that move between English and Chinook Wawa, The Salmon Shanties explores memories of people, place, and of returning home, speaking the land's names as a music of its own.
Harold Rhenisch has published 33 books of poetry, fiction, memoir, translation, criticism and nonfiction since 1981. He has twice won both the CBC Prize and the Malahat Review Long Poem Prize and received the George Ryga Prize for Social Responsibility in Literature.
North Cascades Institute envisions healthy Northwest ecosystems where all communities and species thrive. Our mission is to inspire environmental stewardship through transformative learning experiences in nature. Since 1986, we have helped connect people, nature and community through the hands-on study of the natural and cultural history of the Pacific Northwest.
