The military is the largest employer of musicians in the USA - what do these jobs look like? How did military music in the US get started? What are special bands, how do you join these groups and how do you figure out if and which military music career path is right for you? A panel of musicians from across the different branches and components will bring information and experience to the history of military music and to answer your questions on the military as a musician career. We aim to inspire flutists to explore military music careers as a unique lifestyle that combines artistic excellence, financial stability, and meaningful service. This presentation will showcase personal narratives, practical guidance, and the transformative power of music in service to our nation.
What Makes This Unique
This presentation is the most comprehensive panel ever assembled, representing all but one of the five military branches (Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force), components (active duty, reserves, National Guard, special bands), and instructors at the School of Music (SOM). As America celebrates its 250th birthday, we share untold stories of resilience, triumph, and artistic fulfillment that only military musicians can tell.
This presentation is part of the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention and you must be registered to attend.
