“2 HOURS FROM READY” – A VISUAL ARTS CURATION Workshop & Practicum
LED BY ALEATHIA BROWN
Aleathia Brown, a Harlem and Bronx native and HAA member, is a multidisciplinary artist, poetic storyteller, curator, and educator. A graduate of Fiorello LaGuardia High School of Music & Art, she earned her BFA from the School of Visual Arts in Media Arts and Art Education, with a minor in Graphic Design. Listed in the National Museum of Women in the Arts Archives, her work has been exhibited at the American Museum of Natural History, the Bronx Museum of Art, Brick Lane Gallery (London), Miami’s Wynwood Convention Center, and other notable venues. She is currently curating the TOUCH Black Breast Cancer Alliance booth at the Harlem Fine Arts Show (HFAS18).
**LIMITED TO A MAXIMUM OF 15 PARTICIPANTS PER WORKSHOP/PRACTICUM!
WORKSHOP: With step-by-step guidance, Brown will lead participants through the fundamentals of visual art curation, including selecting and framing artworks, installing an exhibition, marketing and pricing work, creating labels and signage, managing transportation and insurance needs, and more.

Time: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Location: Children’s Art Carnival; 62 Hamilton Terrace, Harlem, NY 10031
PRACTICUM: Participants will immerse themselves in the real-world process of curating a working booth at HFAS 18, assisting Artist and Booth Curator Aleathia Brown. Through hands-on involvement, participants will support exhibition preparation, booth production, public activations and artist talks, and engage directly with art pricing and sales.
Date: Friday, February 20th through Sunday, February 22nd
Time: Participants will be scheduled in shifts across the three days of the show—Friday (6:00–10:00 PM), Saturday (10:00 AM–10:00 PM), and Sunday (10:00 AM–1:00 PM). In addition, participants should expect 2–4 hours of pre-show preparation prior to the opening of HFAS.

SUMMARY OF THE HAA “BEHIND-THE-SCENES” PROGRAM:
Offers FREE skills-building workshops paired with real-world practicums, and designed to introduce BIPOC and female talent (18+) to foundational skills in a range of arts operations careers.
Led by veteran mentors who are members of HAA, you will gain hands-on experience in producing, stage management, press/marketing, filmmaking, curation, and nonprofit operations. HAA serves as a powerful platform to introduce you to career paths you may never have previously considered.
In a community-strengthening partnership with the West Harlem Development Corporation (WHDC), we encourage West Harlem Residents or people who work in West Harlem to apply.
