From the Andes to the heart of Brazil, this concert explores rhythm, folklore, and musical storytelling through the voice of the string quartet. The Harikoa Collective brings together Amelia Taylor, Alejandro Larumbe, Donald Maurice, and Jesbery Hall in a programme inspired by South American musical traditions. At its centre is Gabriela Lena Frank’s Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout, a vivid work drawn from the landscapes and indigenous music of Peru. This is paired with Heitor Villa-Lobos’ String Quartet No. 1, reflecting the composer’s deep connection to Brazilian musical identity. Together, these works form a journey through South American musical legends, where classical forms meet folk traditions and storytelling takes centre stage.
