This course is aimed at those individuals who are considering a career in the construction industry. To enter the construction industry there are certain prerequisites which need to be met, for example: Personal Protective Equipment, site induction, manual handling, health and safety and CSCS cards. The aim of the course is to give learners all that is needed for them to be hard hat ready and to enter the construction industry as a skilled/semi-skilled labourer or similar.
What is the course content:
· Construction site induction on a live site.
· Health and safety training, leading to a City and Guilds qualification.
· Manual handling training.
· Practical training on a live site.
· Construction related work experience on a live site.
· CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card scheme training, leading to a CSCS (labourers) card.
What qualifications will I gain?
· The City and Guilds Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment.
· The CITB Health safety and Environment operatives test (certificate).
· A CSCS Labourers card, (valid for 5 years).
What experience will I gain?
· You will be inducted onto a live construction site.
· You will gain work experience of construction tasks: bricklaying and labouring.
· You will be competent in health and safety and tested/certified.
· You will know how to manually handle materials and will have put your training into practice on a live construction site.
· You will receive all of the PPE you need to enter and work on a construction site. You will also be competent in its use.
Where will this course lead me?
Upon completion of this course, you will have all the qualifications, equipment and experience to enter the construction industry in a labourer’s role. Your previous experience will determine if this is a skilled or semi-skilled role. From this you could progress onto further qualifications and job roles within the construction industry.
* This course is fully funded, subject to eligibility. To access this funding, participants must live or work in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK.
