For our final pick of 2024, Kieran has chosen to celebrate the 70th anniversary of an icon – Godzilla!Emerging from post-war nuclear fears, the original Godzilla remains perhaps the greatest in the series’ history, one which has seen it endure incredible highs (2023’s Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One) and incredible lows (1998’s American remake) to become the longest running franchise in film history. While the simplicity of the concept might be one of the reasons it has endured, it’s easy to take for granted what an incredible achievement the original film remains, applying real-world terrors onto a film of incredible spectacle.
Often imitated but never bettered, Godzilla remains as thrilling and fun as ever, and a film that should be watched on as big a screen as possible. Celebrate 70 years of a cinematic legend with this screening of the classic film that started it all.
